On Tuesday, October 13, 2015 Rock Hill Parks, Recreation & Tourism announced a significant development in Riverwalk’s world-class cycling facilities. At the groundbreaking for Riverwalk’s newest cycling amenity, a closed Criterium Course, Mayor Doug Echols announced that the forthcoming facility will be open to the public in the new year and available for use by all levels and ages.
The paved Criterium track will provide a safe, enclosed area for recreational and competitive cyclists to enjoy. The venue also boasts ample parking, RV hook ups and offers a vista of the entire track.
The new facility will complement the current cycling facilities at Riverwalk including 7 miles of single track mountain bike trails, the Giordana Velodrome and the Novant Health BMX Supercross Track. Upon it’s completion, work on Riverwalk’s final cycling venue — a Cyclocross Course that challenges both cycling and running skills via off-road obstacles — will commence.
With the five USA Cycling disciplines offered in one location, Riverwalk’s mix of competitive venues will continue to draw cyclists from around the world. These amenities are in addition to the existing Rock Hill sports and recreation venues that generated $20m economic impact in 2014 alone.
Stay tuned for updates on the Crit Course as well as plans for world-class competitions at these venues.
