Riverwalk is a Planned, Mixed-Use Village Inspired by its Heritage as a Trade Crossing.
The Catawba Indians, the first known settlers, were attracted to this particular stretch of the river because of its proximity to a natural ford.Over the years, the property has evolved and transformed. In the early 1900s, textile mogul, Hamilton Carhartt, chose this spot to build a mansion that would serve as his Rock Hill summer home and invite a lively social scene.
From 1947–2005, the site was owned by Celanese Corporation of America and became one of the largest textile manufacturing facilities in the world. Although more than 1,000 acres were owned, only 350 acres were used by the plant. In October 2005, respected developer, Assured Group of Companies, purchased the land and has thoroughly restored it for sustainable development.
